It’s Official: Shampoo Is bad For Your Hair!
Modern shampoos may leave hair feeling squeaky clean but this is achieved by using industrial detergents that produce lots of foam and remove all the hair’s natural oils, versions of those same detergents are commonly used in washing-up liquid and household cleaning products. For most people with normal or sensitive skin strong detergents will react with the scalp to cause irritation and dandruff. Those with curly, wavy, colour treated and processed hair will be also be susceptible to damage and breakages.
The alternative is a cleansing conditioner or what is increasing called a ‘co-wash’ product. Cosmiko has developed a range of natural organic co-wash hair cleansers that do not contain man-made detergents (or surfactants as they are also known) such as sodium lauryl sulfate or sodium laureth sulfate and ammonium lauryl sulphate. SLSs and ALS have long been associated with skin problems but are still used widely in the cosmetics industry because of the desirable thick soapy suds they produce when massaged into wet hair.
Most women wouldn’t dream of washing their face with detergent or even hand soap and attitudes to cleaning hair are now changing. The largest international cosmetic brands now all have co-wash products and Cosmiko has its own popular cleansers and conditioners that use only 100% natural organic ingredients.
