Plant based options disrupting the markets with meat alternatives and vegan offerings. Premiumisation of products or using the word ‘Craft’ or ‘Crafted’ also continued it’s growth with clients spending money less often but spending more when they do to get something they perceive as nicer. The seeds of change; popularity of seeds grew in 2017 as predicted with them providing a natural source of flavour, texture and many health benefits.
Now here’s the list of Ten Predicted Health and Nutrition Trends for 2018
Collagen is gathering pace
Its proven to be a popular and effective ingredient in anti-aging and anti-wrinkle products but 2018 will show even more growth as the use of supplements is in growth. The nutrient-dense superfood has exploded in 2017 and for good reason. Collagen supplements are rich in two sources of amino acids not typically found in modern diets. Joint health and skin quality has been shown to drastically improve following the use of collagen products. Glycine, one of the major amino acids in the ingredient has been shown to moderate inflammation and detoxification. As the oral digestion of Collagen gathers in popularity, so will cosmetic and skin care products that feature Collagen as an ingredient. Cosmiko can provide Collagen in many of it’s Private Label Cosmetics and Private Label Skincare Products.
Detox in the daily routine
Detoxing was almost niche a decade ago and almost seen as a taboo with headlines focusing on tubes being placed in areas you wouldn’t like to mention. Nowadays however there are lots of products offering Detoxing from fresh Juice to Skincare products promising to detox the skin. With people’s attitudes to natural and organic produce, this has led to companies being more transparent with the ingredients going into the products making it easier to avoid GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms). There still isn’t any labelling on products that identifies every day toxins that can be found in food, drinking water, air and even the soil. Products that contain sulphur and other supportive vitamins and minerals such as Vitamin C, Vitamin E and Zinc. Vitamin C, Vitamin E and Zinc supplements can be provided by Cosmiko in your next Private Label Cosmetic or Skincare products to help boost your customer health.
Awesomely Organic
The popularity of Organic produce should be the least surprising trend to make it onto this list as 2017 was another year for Organic to grow massively across all industries. Never before has awareness towards Organic and Genetically Modified food been so prolific. Free from chemical dyes, grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides and chemical fertilizers. Furthermore, research carried out this year shows that organically grown produce is higher in nutrients and lower in heavy metals. As people are exposed to more and more evidence suggesting the negative impacts these pesticides could have on their health, attitudes have long been changing. At Cosmiko we also recognise this trend and as a result, the cosmetic and skincare products we offer contain 80%+ Organic and Natural ingredients.
Black Seed Oil
Black Seed Oil (Otherwise known as Black Oil, Black Coriander Oil or Nigella Sativa) is an ingredient very popular in various medicinal treatments like Ayurveda. The seed has been though a large number of scientific tests and research showing its effectiveness in various health conditions. Research is suggesting that black seed oil can actually help the insulin function and also keep the insulin producing pancreas working at a healthy level. One of the active components of Black Seed Oil called Thymoquinone can assist the human body in building strong and healthy bones. Cosmiko can provide a number of seed and nut extracts to be added to various Private Label Cosmetic and Private Label Skincare products. To find out more information, click HERE.
Keto Diets
You can’t go a year without hearing about the latest and greatest fad diet. Ketogenic Diets are becoming less of a fad and people are jumping on board thanks to the health benefits. The human body and brain run off glucose (The human body identifies glucose as the easiest sugar to digest) and fatty acids for energy purposes. Ketones are another type of fuel made from fatty acids that have been shown to be particularly important in supporting brain function and cognition. Research shows that ingredients such as coconut oil, palm oil and butter all contribute to ketone production. Your newest SKUs for 2018 could cover the needs of someone following the Keto Diet. Avocado, Macadamia and Olive Oil are popular Keto ingredients that could be added to cosmetic and skincare products among many others. To check out a comprehensive list of ingredients click HERE.
Traditional Medicine and Modern Science
Any brief amount of research you were to do on any ingredient would reveal the often, rich history that each ingredient has. The ancient Egyptians, Greeks, Arabs and Chinese all used medicines as a tool and many of the ingredients we love today have well documented use that dates back hundreds, if not thousands of years. Modern research is now exploring the use of essentials oils and aromatherapy for health benefits and other aspects such as mental health. This research can often bring up unknown facts about these ingredients which could then be used as an effective USP when entering a product into the market. At Cosmiko, we will try to report on these findings and share them with our customers using the blog. We try and identify trends early so our customers can benefit the most with their Private Label Products.
Cannabis Derivatives
Research carried out on Cannabidiol (CBD) a cannabis derivative and hemp products indicates it has analgesic, anti-inflammatory and anti-anxiety properties without the other psychoactive properties of the THC element. Interest is slowly gathering pace as people’s attitudes towards the ingredient change. Research is coming out that proves the medicinal properties. Cosmiko can provide Hemp Oil as an ingredient in Private Label Cosmetics which could provide your customer base with that natural anti-inflammatory they’ve been searching for.
Vinegars
Vinegars are fast becoming a new alternative to sugar-laden fizzy drinks and juices. A study published in the Diabetes Care Journal demonstrated that taking vinegar at bedtime can support healthy blood sugar levels when you wake up in the morning. Following these studies, it hasn’t taken long for Vinegar (of many varieties) to find itself in cosmetic and skincare products; Cider vinegar, when used on skin and hair has purifying, shining and detangling.
In a water solution, it is thought to restore the skins balance and prevent things such as dandruff and acne. Balsamic Vinegar can give hair a glossy shine and soft texture and is considered the best conditioner of all vinegars. Cosmiko can provide this ingredient to be added to any Private Label Cosmetic products. Vinegars are still a very niche corner of the market and certainly could be worth exploring in 2018.
Vegetables and beyond
Analysts are predicting that 2018 is going to be even more about healthy eating than 2017 has shown. As we become more aware in the foods that we are eating and the (sometimes exaggerated) health benefits or impacts they might have. Many people have a hard time eating enough vegetables, they can acknowledge this and want to increase their consumption. Adding these so-called ‘superfoods’ to a selection of Cosmetic products could prove to be a very popular SKU. Some vegetables with health qualities include; Beans are a wonderful at fighting off the first signs of aging when they are used on skin as an exfoliator, leaving the skin healthy and renewed. The beans also absorb excess dirt and oils from the skin. Green vegetables are rich in antioxidants that reduce skin inflammation and prevent cell damage. Trendy examples of this could include Kale and Spinach.
Botanicals for the Brain
Botanicals such as from Green Tea extracts and Cucumber extract helpful for boosting brain function, are gaining more market appreciation and started to be noted in articles and blogs etc. The number of different formulas are endless with the number of botanical extracts that you can now find on the market. All of these botanicals all boast unique selling points which is fantastic from a Private Label aspect as the same product could have several USPs. More formulas are appearing on the market that focus more on clarity and mood. Turmeric and Basil are predicted to be big ingredients for cosmetics in 2018 and these ingredients can be supplied by Cosmiko to be added to your Private Label Skincare products.
